Classic Hushpuppies
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup yellow corn meal
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 Tbsp dried minced onion
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp ground red pepper
- 1-1/2 cups buttermilk
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, combine the corn meal, flour, onion, baking powder, sugar, salt, baking soda, and red pepper and mix well. Add buttermilk and egg and stir until well blended. Let stand 5 minutes.
2. In a deep skillet, heat 1-1/2 inches of vegetable oil to 350F
3. Using the Uncle Jesse’s “Quick Drop” Hushpuppy Maker, fill your tray with batter using the included spatula, and dispense your hushpuppies three at a time into the oil. Fry until golden brown and thoroughly cooked through. Drain on paper towels and serve.
